Until now: the European Patent (EP)
Whereas the traditional EP is applied centrally at the European Patent Office (EPO), it will become only a bundle of national patents after grant, each with its own fate. The contracting states have to be individually designated, and each national part can be transferred, enforced and declared invalid individually without effect for the rights in the other designated states.
